Buy A Star To Support Veterans
Sunday, October 31st, 2010
To help celebrate Veterans Day, the cadets of Brewer High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC are selling red, white, and blue stars for $1 each. You can buy a star and put the name of a veteran in your family on the star. All money raised will be used to mail monthly care packages to the 615th MP Company, our adopted platoon in Afghanistan. Stars can be purchased in Room 100, or see any AFJROTC cadet and they will get you one.
BHS will host its annual Veterans Day Assembly on Wednesday, November 10, from 8:00 – 9:00 AM.

Portraits of the “Disappeared”
Monday, October 25th, 2010
Students in Mrs. Menninghaus’s Drawing/Painting class here at Brewer High School have been invited to be part of a study of the “Disappeared.” Mr. Ravan, Spanish teacher, lived in Argentina for eight months in 1998 on a Fulbright Exchange and has met people connected to the Disappeared, a term that refers to what are believed to be close to 30,000 political dissidents who “disappeared” between the years 1976-1983 in Argentina at the hands of the government.
Mrs. Menninghaus’s Drawing/Painting classes have been using their knowledge and experience in portraits to create an original artwork that honors one person who has been “disappeared.” They hope to post the artworks online so the parents and relatives of these individuals may see the artwork and writings.
Mr. Ravan’s Spanish classes have researched and helped the art classes with the language barriers. There is going to be an exchange of students with Mrs. Martin, English teacher, so the Art students have help writing their artist statements for this project.
The art is being hung up on Friday, October 29, in the Guidance suites A & B and will be shown for the month of November.

Monday, October 25th, 2010
Members of Maine’s chapter of the Air Force Sergeants Association held a golf tournament at Rocky Knoll Country Club to benefit Maine Veterans’ Homes. More than $1,600 was raised to be used by MVH’s Activities Departments to support programs for veterans at the homes. “This is just one small way of saying thanks for your service and sacrifice,” said Steve Hughes.
