Winter Carnival Week – February 6-10

Winter CarnivalBrewer High’s annual Winter Carnival will be held during the week of February 6-10.  The theme for each day are as follows:

Monday – Ugly Sweater Day

Tuesday – Bad Hair Day

Wednesday – Formal Wear

Thursday – Pajama Day

Friday – Loyalty Day

We are also holding a door decorating contest.  The homeroom with the best decorated door will win a box of donuts.  Student Council members will judge the doors on Thursday, February 9.  The rules are that nothing can be touching the floor or covering the windows.  Our pep rally will take place on Friday, February 10 in the gym.  Have a fun week!

Midyear Exam Week – January 17-20

Midyear Exams will be given starting on Tuesday, January 17 at Brewer High School. There will be a break period each day of the exams during which time there will be pizza slices and drinks for sale in the cafeteria. Students can also request a bag lunch in advance from the Main Office. Good luck students! Here is the schedule for the week:

Senior Seminar Students Learn About Protest Movement

Students in Mr. Rand’s Honors Senior Seminar ended a four week unit on the Occupy Wall Street movement and the history of protest and dissent in America with a visit from Dr. Sunny Skye Hughes. Dr. Hughes is a professor in the Journalism Department at the University of Maine with a specialty in First Amendment issues.  She is an active participant in Occupy Bangor and she shared her experiences with the movement.  Dr. Hughes also touched upon how the current financial climate is affecting college students.

Education Commissioner meets with Brewer HS students

Maine Department of Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen came to Bangor High School on December 8 to talk with students about what makes an effective school and an effective teacher. Students from Brewer HS as well as some from Bangor High School came together to share their thoughts with Commissioner Bowen. Read more about this day and their ideas:

Former Teacher’s Family Leaves $222,000 to Brewer High Scholarship Fund

Florence Pierce was a math teacher at Brewer High from 1923-1946.  Her daughter, Jean Margaret Pierce, has left $222,000 to the Brewer High School Scholarship Fund in her mother’s memory to be awarded to students pursuing math and science careers.  Ed and Maxine Harrow of Holden, whose son Seth and daughter Amy attended Brewer High School, have also donated $5000 to the fund.  The scholarship fund now totals $530,000.  We are extremely grateful for these generous gifts!

2011 Brewer High Winter Concert

Monday, December 12th, 2011

The Brewer High School music department’s annual winter concert will be held on Sunday, December 18th at 2:00 PM at the Performing Arts Center at Brewer Community School. There will be performances by the honors chorus, concert choir, and concert bands. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.
