The University of Maine has provided us with a report of how former Brewer High students perform at the flagship campus of the state’s university system. The data used to generate the report was collected over the three year period from 2008 – 2011. 72% of our students felt they were either “well prepared” or “very well prepared” for their college studies. The mean grade point average after the first college year was 2.56 and the number of students still enrolled one year after matriculation was 83%. The most popular programs with our former students were Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture; Liberal Arts and Sciences; and Engineering. We feel that this report shows that Brewer High students are well prepared post-secondary studies. The entire report can be viewed here.

Good luck to Nick Turner, Whitney Hogan, Ryan Ward, Jessica Cunney, Mark Proulx, and Mason Duplissie who will be participating at the All-State Music Festival at the University of Maine this Thursday, May 17 through Saturday, May 19. They will participate in auditions and rehearsals which will be capped off with chorus, orchestra, and band concerts at the Collins Center for the Arts on Saturday afternoon. Our musicians have worked hard all year and it is a significant accomplishment that six Brewer High musicians were chosen for this honor.

Student Services and the Main Office have been hard at work on developing our new master schedule for next year. This will incorporate a total of eight periods over two days (as opposed to our current seven periods daily), gives students the opportunity to earn an additional credit each year, and will allow more elective courses to be offered in addition to their core/required classes. Stay tuned for updates!
