The Groove Factor featuring all members of the Brewer High Jazz Ensemble will be performing Thursday, March 22 @ 7:00 PM at Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School in the Bangor Breakfast Rotary’s “All That Jazz” . This year will feature groups from Old Town, Hampden, Bangor, and Brewer. The group that receives the most votes will be awarded $2000 for their program.
Proceeds from every ticket sold goes directly to support Habitat for Humanity. Tickets are $10 and you can purchase multiple tickets and vote multiple times. You can also purchase tickets and give them to someone else to vote if you cannot attend. Tickets are available at the event or from Mr. Harris at Brewer High. Good luck Brewer!
Brewer Youth Theatre will present the award-winning production of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare”, Wednesday, March 21 at 5:00 p.m. at the Brewer Performing Arts Center. Brewer won the MPA’s regional drama festival last weekend to advance to the state finals at Falmouth March 23-24, and this will be the only opportunity to see the show before the state competition.
Admission at the door is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Come see our talented group of Brewer students take on the bard in a whole new way!
Congratulations to the Brewer High jazz ensemble and combo 1 for their outstanding performance at the Maine State Jazz Festival at MDI High School last weekend. Westbrook and Nokomis finished first and second in Division II with Brewer finishing third. Division II was the only division that had more than three schools receive a “gold” rating which is a score of 85 or higher. Kristin Daigle and Nick Turner were both recognized for outstanding musician awards for their work on trumpet.

Congratulations to Brewer High freshman Evan Riva who won a regional candlepin bowling competition at the Bowl-A-Rama in Portsmouth, NH. Evan was representing the Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes and was the youngest competitor in his division. You can watch Evan’s match on Candlepin 4 Kids YouTube channel.
The cast and crew of Brewer Youth Theatre’s production of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare” dazzled the panel of judges at the Maine Regional Drama Festival in Millinocket, earning the right to move on to the State Finals at Falmouth High School, March 23-24. Brewer scored 292 out of a possible 300 points to outdistance Presque Isle who scored 205 points. Old Town and Bangor finished third and fourth. Brewer’s entire cast received a commendation for Ensemble Acting and seniors Lauryn Goodall (photo), Matt Fern, and Alek Sayers were named to the All Festival Cast. This marks Brewer’s fourth trip to the states in seven years and is the eighth time since 2001 that Brewer has been either regional champion or runner-up. Congratulations to the whole crew and good luck at the state finals.
Congratulations to the Brewer High Jazz Ensemble for taking 1st Place at the 2012 Berklee High School Jazz Festival in Boston on March 10. Brewer’s ensemble, directed by Brady Harris, outperformed 14 bands from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Brewer was followed by three other Maine bands in places 2-4: South Portland, Brunswick, and Hampden. Kristin Daigle (trumpet) and Steven Loftin (drums) were recognized for outstanding musicianship and Jessica Cunney was also recognized for her work on the saxophone for the second unit. The ensembles will be performing this Tuesday, March 13th at 4:00 PM at the Performing Arts Center at the Brewer Community School and at the State Jazz Festival on March 16-17 at MDI High School.
Brewer Art students in Ms. Spruce’s and Mrs. Menninghaus’s classes have work on display at the Bangor Mall Art exhibit. It is sponsored by Art in the Heart and University of Maine Museum of Art and is up from March 4th to March 18th. The following students have art featured in the show: Hannah Anderson, Rachel Chavarie, Emily Earle, Abby Hallahan, Taylor Kaulfers, Chelsea King, Karen Lucky, Cassidy Marsh, Megan Perkins, Taryn Perry, Avery Risley, Morgan Williams, and Jeremy Wyman.
Brewer High School Moving To Block Scheduling System – by Nok-Noi Ricker of the Bangor Daily News
The Brewer School Committee decided Monday to move to block scheduling at the high school starting in the fall. That means that when students start the 2012-13 school year, they will have only four classes a day compared with the seven they now take.
Dr. Todd Gabe, Professor of Economics from the University of Maine, gave a lecture to Brewer High School Honors Diploma students on Friday, March 2 on the topic, ”What’s happening to America’s Middle Class”. Dr. Gabe explained how economists measure income inequality and look at trends over time and across U.S. regions. Students got to talk to Dr. Gabe regarding career goals and the Economics Department at UMaine.
