BCS will continue to have outside recess as long as the “feels like” temperature is 10 degrees above zero. Please dress students prepared for the snow and colder conditions. If you have “gently used” boots or ski pants that your child has outgrown, we are happy to take donations. We try our best to keep extras on hand to help students that may forget them. Our supplies are getting low and we appreciate the help keeping students warm and dry.
GAGA BALL~
BCS Student Council funded the building of a gaga ball pit! A HUGE thank you to Mr. Burby and Mr. Estes for their time getting the materials and building the pit. The new game was set up for a few weeks in November and students enjoyed the addition to recess!
Get On Board~
Brewer Community School has partnered again this year with First Push Syndicate and will be rolling into the Get On Board program! Over the next few weeks students will have the opportunity to experience skateboarding as part of their physical education classes. The New Hampshire based non-profit, provides the skateboards and gear needed for students to learn new skills.
Thanksgiving Parade~
Students and staff lined the halls to watch as our kindergarten classes marched to parade music throughout the school. The kindergarten students designed and decorated paper balloons creating their own Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The entire school enjoyed the event and look forward to it becoming an annual tradition at BCS.
Performing Arts~
December is a busy month for Performing Arts! December 4th and 5th the Drama Club/Brewer Youth Theater will be performing:
Holiday Radio Show at 6:00 pm.
Next week BCS will host a Concert and Jazz Band Performance (grades 6-8) on December 10th, a Choir Concert (grades 6-8) on December 11th, and a Pre K Winter Concert on the 12th.
We appreciate all the time and effort put into these programs by both students and staff and hope that many families will be able to come out to support our performing arts extracurricular activities.
Innovations Academy
20 Innovations Academy students visited the University of Maine Entomology Department to learn about insects. Students were able to handle cockroaches and a praying mantis, learn about invasive insects and safe pest control, and examine various insect specimens underneath the microscopes.
End of 1st Trimester~
Report cards for the first trimester of school are coming home Friday, 12/5 with students. Along with report cards, students in grades 2 and up will receive a copy of the MAP Growth Student Progress Report from our fall testing this year. Students who were in grade 3 and up last year will also receive the spring of 2025 Individual Student Report from the Maine Through Year Assessment, formerly referred to as MEA testing. Please keep the enclosed reports, and sign and return the envelope to school. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.
