SNOW MUCH FUN!

Grade 3 was awarded the MEEA Mini Grant for Outdoor Learning and Environmental Education Projects. They used grant funds to purchase snowshoes, weaving outdoor learning and Wabanaki studies into their classrooms. Students learned about traditional Wabanaki snowshoes and compared those to animals that use their paws like snowshoes. Students then got outside in their new snowshoes to try them out!

Best Buddies Club
We are excited to share that BCS will be launching a new Best Buddies Club for students in grades 5-8! Best Buddies is an international organization dedicated to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, leadership development, and inclusive experiences for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. Our goal is to foster meaningful relationships, promote inclusion, and continue building a positive and supportive school community here at BCS. More details about meeting dates and student sign-ups will be coming soon. The new chapter will have a fundraiser on March 11th at Hero’s Sports Grill in Bangor. This is a great way for families and staff to support the club while enjoying a meal together! Best Buddies Flyer

Box Topics

A friendly reminder from the school nurse regarding food in the classroom:

We all love to celebrate special occasions with our children!  If possible, celebrating without using food is preferable due to many life- threatening food allergies in our school population. Some ideas

include: sending a book for the classroom, sending in stickers, pencils, etc.  There are more great ideas on the 5-2-1-0 Let's Go! website:  www.letsgo.org

Although having a food treat as a celebration can be fun for students, it could be an emergency situation for a food allergic person.  Prior approval from your child’s teacher is necessary in order for foods to be shared in the classroom. Please contact your child’s teacher BEFORE you send in any food to be shared. Any food brought into the classroom to share MUST have a store label with ingredients listed to ensure that all children are safe. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. Again, we appreciate your cooperation and compassion.
