TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

May 4th-8th is teacher appreciation week at BCS! Each day next week we will have a special way of showing our appreciation for our teachers and staff, and we would like to include our amazing students in the FUN! On Tuesday we will be Celebrating Teachers! Students are invited to dress like their teacher or wear their teacher's favorite color to school. Students are encouraged to bring a note or card to thank a special teacher. Thank you for helping us recognize our dedicated teachers and staff!

MAINE GUIDE PRESENTATION

April 17th, Maine Guide and owner of Wild Ferns Guide Service; Zach LaFreniere came to BCS to speak to grades K-2 about his job. He taught students and teachers about safety in the Maine woods, he discussed boat, water/ice safety in our lakes and ponds/streams and how to check for ticks after being outside. Zach showed students how to identify the different animals and fish we have in Maine and how they adapt to the cold Maine winters and hot summers. He also explained the laws that are in place to control and protect our animal populations. He shared different animal calls, and what they mean. Zach encouraged all the students to get outside over vacation and spend some time exploring nature in Maine. He ended the presentation by reminding all

students and staff to "stay wild" :)

ITech

Middle School students have been busy learning to code in Mrs. Clawson’s ITech class! 5th Graders were challenged to code the alphabet using the Indi cars, and 6th Grade students designed chariots to drive the Sphero Bolts. The 8th grade classes built a rover, tank, and thumb remote with microbits and bit board controllers! Small groups of students worked together to get their ideas on paper to actual moving parts!

SMALL BUSINESS VISITORS
Our 3rd graders recently had a very exciting opportunity as part of their upcoming Market Day unit! We welcomed special visitors from Jason’s Pizza, Downtown Charcuterie, Baked by Joy, and Box of Maine. Each business shared what it’s really like to start and run a business. Our students learned about the first steps of building a business, how to create a strong brand, and ways to advertise and attract customers. Our students loved all the presentations and of course the goodies were a big hit!! This opportunity sparked so much excitement and so many of our students are already thinking like future business owners! We can’t wait for our Market Day in June when our students will showcase their very own business and creations.

PEN PALS

From Brewer, Maine to Lille, France! Students in Mrs. Snook’s 8th grade French class have launched an exciting pen pal exchange with students from France. Each student wrote in French to a same-age partner, sharing about life in Maine and asking questions to learn about life abroad. Their creativity and excitement have been incredible to see. Now we wait (impatiently!) for replies—à bientôt, France!
