BHS SCHOLARSHIPS
The following scholarships are awarded each year to BHS graduating seniors who complete the Brewer High School General Scholarship Application. It does not represent a complete list of scholarships that will be awarded to this year’s graduating class, as there may be additions or deletions to this list. Also, stated scholarship amounts are estimates only. Scholarship recipients are selected by the BHS Scholarship Committee. The BHS General Scholarship Application is distributed each January to the senior class.
All Souls Congregational Church Nason Fund Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior with high moral character and follows principles of justice, kindness, respect, responsibility, honesty, persistence, and compassion. $500
Bangor Art Society Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior planning to attend an art or design program with the intent to practice art professionally. $2,000
Ben Simmons Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education. (4) $500
Bernice Ireland Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursing post-secondary education at EMCC or Husson University and planning to attend a business program. $225
Betty Jacobs Memorial Scholarship: awarded in memory of Betty Jacobs, Brewer High School Class of 1943. (3) $1,000
Brewer Firemen's Relief Association Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursing post-secondary education in fire protection engineering; fire investigation, emergency medical services; emergency management or related major. $1,000
Brewer High School Alumni Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior whose parent graduated from Brewer High; planning to attend any post-secondary institution. $1,070
Brewer High School “Class of 1956” Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; consideration given to academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, good citizen. $1,110
Brewer High School "Class of 1979" Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursing post-secondary education. Preference given for a technical school and a financial need. $650
Brewer High School "Class of 2024" Scholarship: award to graduating seniors pursing post-secondary education. (2) $1,000.
Brewer High School Senior Alumni Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education; scholarship, character, and financial need. (10) $1,500
Brewer-Nickerson Community Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; supported by the Brewer business community. $440
Bryce Basso Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursing post-secondary education at a trade school with preference for automotive. One recipient must have attended Center Drive School. (2) $1,500
City of Brewer Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education and are residents of Brewer; recipients are chosen based on academics and character. $1,200
Corey Wilcox Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior involved in school activities, strong school spirit; recipients are also chosen based on academics and athletics. $1,000
Drew Baker Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursing post-secondary education. Preference given to a person in UTC or going into welding. (2) $1,000
Erin Elizabeth Dufour Memorial Nursing Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors planning to major in nursing. $1,000
Ernest R. Bradstreet Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior planning to pursue a degree in secondary education. $1,000
Fisher Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior planning to attend EMCC. (5) $500.
Florence H. Peirce Memorial Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors planning to pursue careers in math, science, and the arts. (5) $2,480
Harold & Shirley Nason Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; preference given to those planning to major in forestry, heavy equipment, or other related field. $750
Harrow Family Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior planning to pursue post-secondary education, preferably in Maine. $1,000
Hervey C. & Barbara E. Livermore Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior planning to attend a Maine school and major in Nursing; financial need, community service, and at least a C average also considered. Other medical related majors may be considered as a 2nd preference. $500
Jerry Goss Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior planning to pursue post-secondary education. Extracurricular activities and community service also a consideration. (1) $700.
Joshua A. McKay Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education and who demonstrates hard work and determination to succeed. $200
Kathy Schwigan Education Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursing a 4-year post-secondary education in education. (2)$500
Maine Savings Federal Credit Union Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior who is a member of the bank, strong academics and school involvement. $2,000
Mann Memorial Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors who attended Center Drive School and still reside in Orrington, with preference given to students who participated in sports, earned a B average or above, and plan to pursue a 4-year degree. $1,000
Mary & Paul Hayes Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors who will be attending the University of Maine in the fall. $2,403
Mildred Thayer Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education, with strong academics and strong character. $2,140
Peixotto Trust Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education and who has most academically and socially improved; financial need also considered. (2) $2,960
Perces Drake Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education and demonstrates need and worthiness. $800
Ralph & Inez Getchell Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; preference given to education or business related major. $1,000
Richard & Catherine Wood Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; preference given to education or business related major. $500
Shoestring Thrift Shop Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education who has earned at least average grades; community service and financial need are also considered. $1,000
Somic America, Inc. Scholarship: B average or better, doesn't need to be a star; involved in school and community activities; manufacturing related major required (business, engineering, machine technology); preference given to students with financial need, but not required (2) 1,000
Soucie-Theriault Families Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education. (2) $500.
Spencer Twins Memorial Scholarships: awarded in memory of Irene and Madelene Spencer, to graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education; academics, extracurricular and community involvement are considered. (1) $2,430 & (1) $2,530.
Vaughn H. Holyoke Memorial Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; minimum two seasons of cross country or track and field participation required, with at least one during junior or senior year. $500
Other BHS Scholarships:
Brewer Boosters Club Scholarship: awarded to graduating seniors involved in BHS athletics, pursuing post-secondary education, with financial need and personal worthiness. (2) $500
Becky Bubar Scholarship: awarded in honor of Ms. Becky Bubar, former teacher and principal of Brewer High School. $1,000
Brewer High School Student Council Scholarship: awarded by the BHS Student Council to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education, who is a member of the Student Council. $300
Brewer High School Key Club Scholarship: awarded by the Brewer Kiwanis to a graduating senior who is a member of the Key Club. $600
Brewer Historical Society: Arthur C. Verow Scholarship: awarded by the Brewer Historical Society to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education. $1,000
David Marshall Ohmart Memorial Scholarship: awarded by the sponsor to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education, who demonstrates financial need, outstanding character, and strong academics. Finalists will be contacted for an interview with the sponsor. Application requirements are listed on the BHS General Scholarship Application. (1) $1,500 and (2) $500.
Dennis B. Kiah Coaches Scholarship: awarded by BHS coaches to a male and female graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education, who participated in BHS athletics. (2) $1,000
Fred V. Hart Memorial Scholarship: awarded by Husson University to two incoming freshmen; based on academics, citizenship, and character. (2) $2,000
Ronald F. & Marion V. Adams Educational Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education; academic excellence, citizenship, and community involvement are considered. $2,540
Student Representative to the Brewer School Committee Scholarship: awarded to the Brewer School Committee’s student representative. $1,500
Tyler/Grandmaison MELMAC Scholarship: awarded by the principal to a graduating senior pursuing post-secondary education, who has financial need, has faced many challenges, and who is a solid citizen and contributor to the school and community. $2,000
